Cinematography and Mise en Scene

Although my video is more focused on the editing I have used, I still greatly considered Cinematography and Mise en Scene when creating the scenes in my video.
Here are some of the shots where this most shows.

This is one of the shots at the beginning. 

I wanted the person to be mysterious at the beginning and even scary and eventually the audience will see more of this character later on and realize how crazy he is. I made the shot a long distance away but the focus is only on his face, I wanted it to look like a floating head.

This is a shot during some violent lyrics.

I wanted this shot to emphasize this so using cinematography I positioned the camera very low so Ishmael is looking down on it and seems in power. The lighting is coming from behind him and looks like he is the evil blocking out the light. I wanted the shot to be in red and black (done in editing)because those colours connote evil and blood.The shot is a close up so you can see his facial expression and hand movements clear enough even though he is indarkness.

This is a shot where the artist is really shouting out the words and stretching them out.

Ishmael is acting really psychotic and shaking so I emphasized this by adding a really hazy red filter. Ishmael is blurred and off centre to emphasize this.

This shot relates to lyrics about a lightning storm.

The darkness of the setting and the long shot emphasizes the lightning he is creating with his large arm movements. This shows his power and almost as a god-like figure (at least in his own mind)

This is where "Tak tak" is heard (which is where part of Takyon is being repeated).

The sound is almost like a tic for someone that has tourettes but it is inside his mind. In this shot I position the image of the rabid dog barking over the shot of the performer to show his mind state.

This is played during the sound of a police siren.

This is one of the shots added that is a clip from a movie. The shots I have used from this are of a police chase that gets progressively more violent and dangerous for the police, similarly to the music video as a whole. I cropped the shot to be very close up and added an effect to make it look like real footage and not a high budget movie.

In this final shot of the artist rapping, I decided to close out with an extreme close up to show how messed up he is by the end of the video. The ECU clearly shows the eotion on his face.

Music Video: Draft 2 Final Feedback

After showing my video to the class for the last time, I also received the last bits of feedback from the audience.

I was initially worried because some of my classmates had used a similar idea of using some outsourced clips and they were warned not to use too much. In my video I used a lot of clips I had not recorded my self, however, these clips I had used were trimmed very short so actually took up very little of the video.

People seemed to really like the editing of my music video and they specifically liked the pace of the editing in combination of the footage overlayed over the top. Someone specifically said that the footage seemed like my own and didn't stand out too much because it was overlayed with lots of effects. Everyone thought that the visuals linked well with the footage because of both of these things. The clips fit the song and genre and the actual cuts fit with the beat of the music.

Another thing people really liked was the performance. They thought Ishmael did a great job of performing to the song and that his craziness was a perfect fit for the visuals and music. Someone said it was very convincing, as if it could be the actual artist in the video.

As for things I needed to do to improve:

I noticed some of the transitions were slightly off which I knew i had to change after watching it on a bigger screen. I also noticed some of the text in white (the second 666, 5) which should be in black, the white stood out way to much so I need to change that.

Something I also have to add is the artist and title popping up at the beginning of the video.

The next edit of the video will be the very final one.

This weekend I have been spending a lot of time to finish the editing of my music video.

I have been using a combination of all of the footage I have shot as well as all of the editing knowledge I have learnt up to this point including the practice I had on creating the first draft.

Production Log: Friday 18/03/2016

Friday 18th of March 2016

This Friday I finally finished everything that needed to be shot to complete my video.
We had some trouble finding the time to get some filming done during the past week and a half due to mock exams and finishing off coursework and such but we finally had the time.

This Friday we had all day to shoot so we spent 3 hours in drama filming new things and re-shooting some things to make sure I have everything.

We went to a different, bigger drama room with a larger range of props and setting to use for my video. We ended up using things like a sofa, an exit sign and some steps to make an intro for my video.

Firstly I decided to shoot some new things that werent part of the song but to make a short into at the begining of the song. To do this I made the room very dark and shot some mysterious footage. I will edit the levels in post to make the footage a bit easier to see and also in black and white.

We shot the new footage I needed, which was verse 3 of the song and then we re-shot verse 1 and 2.
Afterwards we found a new place to shoot some clips, this was in front of a black curtain which just let a small amount of light seep through making a cool glowing effect.

 

This filming day was very successful and next, I will be editing the final video.

Friday 4th of March 2016

Friday, me and Ishmael planned to reshoot some of the footage that I found was blurry.
However, we couldn't do this because he wasn't in because he was sick.
We plan to film next time he is available.

In the mean time, I have started editing from some of the footage I already have.
If I need to, I can replace any clips that needs to be re-shot whilst still keeping the video effects..
