This weekend I have been spending a lot of time to finish the editing of my music video.

I have been using a combination of all of the footage I have shot as well as all of the editing knowledge I have learnt up to this point including the practice I had on creating the first draft.

Production Log: Friday 18/03/2016

Friday 18th of March 2016

This Friday I finally finished everything that needed to be shot to complete my video.
We had some trouble finding the time to get some filming done during the past week and a half due to mock exams and finishing off coursework and such but we finally had the time.

This Friday we had all day to shoot so we spent 3 hours in drama filming new things and re-shooting some things to make sure I have everything.

We went to a different, bigger drama room with a larger range of props and setting to use for my video. We ended up using things like a sofa, an exit sign and some steps to make an intro for my video.

Firstly I decided to shoot some new things that werent part of the song but to make a short into at the begining of the song. To do this I made the room very dark and shot some mysterious footage. I will edit the levels in post to make the footage a bit easier to see and also in black and white.

We shot the new footage I needed, which was verse 3 of the song and then we re-shot verse 1 and 2.
Afterwards we found a new place to shoot some clips, this was in front of a black curtain which just let a small amount of light seep through making a cool glowing effect.

 

This filming day was very successful and next, I will be editing the final video.

Production Log: Friday 04/03/2016

Friday 4th of March 2016

Friday, me and Ishmael planned to reshoot some of the footage that I found was blurry.
However, we couldn't do this because he wasn't in because he was sick.
We plan to film next time he is available.

In the mean time, I have started editing from some of the footage I already have.
If I need to, I can replace any clips that needs to be re-shot whilst still keeping the video effects..

Production Log: Wednesday 02/03/2016

Wednesday 2nd March 2016

This Wednesday was a good day filming. Previously in the past week there was a drama production going on so we couldn't film there so we had been delayed. It is good to finally shoot some footage.
To film, we prepared the beginning of the week, we arranged the costumes and I had brought in the straitjacket costume. Ishmael had also memorized the lyrics to the song.

We grabbed the camera from media and went to film in drama in period 3 for an hour, during this hour we filmed the first two verses out of four.

Next we went to media and we set up the white screen and the tripod and filmed the padded cell/straitjacket scene (which is also the 4th verse of the track).






Today was a progressive day because we got a lot done. Looking back on the footage however, I noticed some of the footage in drama was blurry so will need to be reshot. The white screen footage was more in focus so was good enough to use.

Change in Performer for my Music Video

The actor in my video, Max will be unable to film as much as I would like because he will not be in school as often and didn't really want to do it. This means I have to find a new performer for my video. Luckily for me, based on the genre I chose, my digipak contains no images of the artist. This means I only have to re-shoot some of the video and not my digipak.

The new performer to be in my video is Ishmael Deen.

Ishmael makes a better actor for my video and also has the exact same time table as me allowing him to film more often.

Production Log: Monday 01/02/2016

Monday 1st of February 2016

This week I finally finished up what I could of my first draft for my music video, using the resources and clips I had available to me. I needed to finish up soon for the first deadline of to show my first draft.

This week I spent my time putting the editing tests to use by finally putting the clips together in sequence to create my video. To do this I am using the software Sony Vegas Pro 12.

Production Log: Tuesday 26/01/2016

Tuesday and for the whole rest of the week, I started to edit the video and play around with the effects I wanted to use, I made multiple versions of things to try them out.
Here is a list of the things I had tried:

. Overlaying multiple video clips to make ghosting effects, I made different versions of these to show it combined with things such as a TV simulator to make one clip appear to wobble wildly, one overlayed with a different clip from the same recording of the song and another with the exact same clip but with the second one out of time with the first.

. Overlaying and using effects on outsources clips. I played around with this one clip of a dog gnashing its teeth and barking. I didn't record this but could use effects to change this to make it my own. I made the clip all red and black and used an effect which makes the clip below it show through the black and other things.

. I tried overlaying numbers onto the clips.

. I tried overlaying flashing red and blue colours with a low opacity to give the impression of police sirens.

. I started to try to add effects and edit the drumming in the video.

Monday 25th of January 2016

On Monday, I had some free time last lesson so I decided to make use of this and record some footage of my friend drumming for my video. I wanted some footage to pop up when the drums started to get heavy so I needed some footage of this.

My friend already new how to play the track on the drums so I just set up the camera and recorded the drums overall and the drums and cymbals individually.

On Friday me and my performer for the video, Max (who was in costume with his black jacket and trousers), went to the drama room to begin the filming of my video. We already knew it was free because I have previously discussed the availability of the room with the teachers and we had already picked up a camera and tripod from Media. As well as the camera and tripod, I also brought along a bright torch that I already owned.




When we got to the drama room we where setting up and we saw a small room in the back that was like a store room. We decided to try this out because we could achieve better lighting by letting some light through a window as well as because it might look good. To film we turned out the lights and used my torch to create a flashing light effect. I shot about half and half on a tripod and using hand-held to emphasize the energy of the song.

After setting up and filming for about two hours, mostly because I had to do multiple shots as well as re shoots of things that went wrong, we could only do one and a half verses of the song and the hook. This takes up about 1 minute of the 2:50 minute song.

Production Log: Monday 18/01/2016

Monday 18th of January 2016

Today I began properly planning to shoot my video.
Today I went to drama and asked a teacher in the room that has the least classes what their timetabel was and when the room will be free.
I found out that there were a few times in the week that would be great to film because I will have no lesson and also there will be enough time to film.

These periods are:

3rd and 5th lesson on a Wednesday. 
This allows me to film two hours as I only have lesson 1&2 and also I can film in Media if I need to in period 4 because there are something I might need to shoot in there.

All day Friday.
This is great because on Friday, I only have a lesson very last in 5th period, this allows me to film almost all day if I need to.


Right now I plan to start filming in drama on Friday period 1 and 2.
